Nigeria: Developing an Automated Court Case Management System

In March 2014, NCSC Court Automation and IT Systems Administration experts traveled to Abuja, Nigeria to plan and coordinate activities for the development of the Court Case Management System (CCMS). The Experts met with the National Judicial Council (NJC) of Nigeria and software vendors to finalize agreements on their respective project responsibilities. NCSC experts began the process of analyzing the existing IT infrastructure and training key court personnel who will be responsible for operating and maintaining the CCMS in the future. The NCSC experts also assisted in planning the NJC and Courts IT organization and staffing model in order to sustain the systems over the long term.

In the coming months, the CCMS software will be prepared for the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals and computer hardware, networks and software will be installed in the registries. End-user training will also be coordinated with the courts and various other Nigerian training resources.

NCSC has been working with the NJC since August 2013 to provide technical assistance and project management for the development of the CCMS, a national legal email system, and related capacity building assistance.
