JUSTICE SYSTEM REFORM ACTIVITY IN KOSOVO

JUSTICE SYSTEM REFORM ACTIVITY IN KOSOVO

The year 2006 has been a particularly active time for USAID's Justice System Reform Activity in Kosovo (JSRAK), a project implemented by the National Center for State Courts.

Most notably, the JSRAK played a significant role in helping establish the Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC) whose members were sworn in on April 3, 2006. The KJC, in assuring the independence of the judiciary, is a historical step forward for Kosovo.

Additional articles in this news board focus on project activities designed to assist in the transition to an effective and impartial justice system, improve the effectiveness of the courts, create an audit system for the judiciary, and improve the public's knowledge of the judiciary. In addition, the newsletter addresses the important subject of court administration.

NCSC remains committed to the development a modern and effective justice system in Kosovo and continue in support of our counterparts. We consider ourselves fortunate to be able to provide support in this historical time of transition in the justice sector, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with the KJC, the courts, the Ministry of Justice, and the citizens of Kosovo.
