The Justice System Reform Activity in Kosovo (JSRAK) is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the National Center for State Courts. The year 2006 has been particularly active for the project. Most notably, the project played a significant role in helping to establish the Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC), whose members were sworn in on April 3, 2006. The founding of the KJC is a historical step forward in Kosovo as it assures the independence of the judiciary. Other JSRAK project activities in 2006 have focused on improving the institutional capacity of the courts; the creation of an audit system for the judiciary. In addition, the project is working to increase the public's knowledge of the justice system and the judiciary. The JSRAK project remains committed to the development a modern and effective justice system in Kosovo we look forward to continued success in our collaboration with the KJC, the courts, and the Ministry of Justice.
