Trinidad and Tobago Juvenile Drug Treatment

In December 2019, NCSC led a study tour for four members of the Trinidad and Tobago Children Court who learned about juvenile drug treatment courts at the DeKalb County Juvenile Court in Atlanta, GA. The delegation learned about Juvenile Drug Treatment Guidelines and the DeKalb County Juvenile Center’s Rebound Program. The Rebound Program is a voluntary five-phase intervention program for juveniles who are on probation.

The Rebound Program is a collaborative effort between the Juvenile Court, the District Attorney’s Office,  the Public Defender’s Office, the Probation Department, the School System, Treatment Providers and the families. The program involves consistent supervision and is geared toward supporting and helping youth maintain a drug-free life.  Judge Linda Bratton Haynes has led Rebound for 16 years and provided guidance to the delegation throughout the visit.

The study tour was conducted as part of the Juvenile Court Project (JCP) implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
