Brazil: 7th International Conference on the Training of the Judiciary

From November 8-12, 2015, the International Organization for Judicial Training (IOJT), hosted the 7th International Conference on the Training of the Judiciary in Recife, Brazil. The overarching theme of the conference was Judicial Excellence Through Education

Participants in the four-day conference included judges, judicial educators, and court staff from 48 countries.  Conference sessions were presented in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese and addressed numerous topics, including funding for judicial branch education, the intersection between judicial education and leadership, technology, professional skills development and the establishment of guiding principles for judicial education.  

NCSC President Mary McQueen, who serves as secretary general of the IOJT, spoke on the value of networking, and hosted the closing plenary session which drew together the core themes of the conference.  

The next IOJT conference will be held in November 2017, with additional information to be released later this year. Prior conferences have been held in Washington D.C. (2013), Bordeaux (2011), Sydney (2009), Barcelona (2007), Ottawa (2004), and Jerusalem (2002).
