Panama: Improving Outcomes for Young People

In September 2016, NCSC was awarded the Juvenile Justice and Youth Empowerment Program by the U.S. Embassy in Panama.

The program aims to improve the effectiveness of Panama’s juvenile justice system and promote the use of alternative sentencing, while facilitating due process and improving outcomes for at-risk youth.

The Program will invest in the expansion of job-skills training for youth in partnership with local municipalities and Panama’s Chamber of Commerce; implement sustainable educational models that expand economic opportunities for young people; and strengthen the capacity of government institutions responsible for justice and security.

The Juvenile Justice and Youth Empowerment Program in Panama builds on the achievements of an earlier funded INL program in Central America to improve outcomes for young people in conflict with the justice system.
