Kosovo: Improving Legal Writing Skills for Judges

In November 2018, Judge Russell Canan of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia traveled to Kosovo to design a training module on legal writing skills through the USAID Justice Sector Strengthening Program (JSSP). Judge Canan helped revise an existing training course on Legal Reasoning and Writing Skills for judges, assessed the training needs of judges and judicial staff in terms of writing skills, and worked with local trainers to prepare a training plan for delivery. The new training course will contribute to improving the quality and structure of written court decisions.

JSSP is funded by USAID and implemented by Millennium DPI in partnership with NCSC. Since 2016, JSSP has worked with the Kosovo Judicial Academy to provide guidance on legal reasoning and decision-making and improve the quality of judicial decisions.
