On June 10 and 12, USAID’s Justice for All (JFA) Program Chief of Party, Sandra Feinzig, Deputy Chief of Party, Sharmeen Farouk, and Legal Officer, Md. Mostofa Kamal, visited two of the Program’s pilot Districts: Rajshahi District and Rangpur District. A discussion meeting, chaired by the District Judge, and moderated by the District Legal Aid Officer, was organized in each District to inform District Legal Aid Committee (DLAC) members and stakeholders about JFA objectives and planned assistance to improve the efficiency and quality of legal aid service delivery at the District level. The discussion meeting provided an opportunity for representatives of the judicial and legal community in each District to share their priorities, present challenges, and suggest solutions to strengthen the government legal aid program. Additional meetings were organized with key stakeholders, including the District Jail Superintendant.

Judges and officials in both districts showed enthusiasm for collaborating with JFA to design innovative ways to address shared challenges. Following these successful introductory meetings, JFA looks forward to building strong partnerships with the DLACs in Rajshahi and Rangpur Districts. Projected activities for the pilot districts include comprehensive training for the District Legal Aid Officers,  development of budgets for the DLACs, and efforts to strengthen data collection and monitoring and evaluation.
